Solo Record In Sight - ETA Update 6AM

Solo sailor Bruce Arms, in his 14 metre catamaran Big Wave Rider, is now less than 6 hours away from setting a new round Australia record. 

Bruce, renowned sailor and two-time winner of the Solo Trans-Tasman yacht race, is in week 5 of his world-record attempt to sail around Australia solo, non-stop, and un-assisted in under 42 days.

At 6 am on Thursday, 18 August 2011, he was 42.4 kilometres SE of Mooloolaba and 73 hours ahead of the existing record of 42 days 5 hours 33 minutes. 

Big Wave Rider is expected to cross the finish line at Mooloolaba between 9.00 am and midday on Thursday, 18 August, 2011. 

WSSRC Mooloolaba start/finish line: Between the entrance marker red light on Eastern Sea Wall of the Mooloolah River at 26 degrees 40.75 minutes South 153 degrees 07.96 minutes East, and a laid buoy at 26 degrees 40.452 minutes South, 153 degrees 08.043 minutes East. This line is approximately 0.3 nm long and the buoy is on an approximate bearing of 000° magnetic from the  entrance marker.

World Record will subject to official ratification by World Speed Sailing Record (WSSRC).
