No disrespect to the Moreton Bay to Mooloolaba Yacht Race, but when Bruce Arms sets sail in the 48-nautical mile contest on Saturday it will probably seem like a walk in the park for the 51-year old.

Arms claimed the record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of Australia - [79 hours, 27 minutes - last year.] Woops newspaper typo. He is also a two-time winner of the solo Trans-Tasman Yacht Race.

Mooloolaba sailor’s distance feat leads to state recognition.

Bruce Arms conquered the ocean when he circumnavigated Australia alone, but now he is the king of the Queensland seas.

The Mooloolaba Yacht Club yachtsman has been named the joint winner of the Queensland Male Sailor of the Year 2011-2012.

Yachting Queensland crowned Bruce the winner, alongside Brisbane’s Kerry Karaker.

Fastest Circumnavigation of Australia by Catamaran
 
Bruce Arms (New Zealand) sailed his 14-m (45-ft 11-in) catamaran around Australia in 38 days 21 hours 40 minutes 42 seconds, setting the record for the swiftest circumnavigation of Australia. He completed his round trip at Mooloolaba, Queensland, on 18 August 2011 at 9:41:06 a.m. AEST.
